Tigers win dual at Breckenridge
The Morris Area/Hancock/Chokio-Alberta wrestling team improved its dual record to 3-2 with a 56-22 win at Breckenridge Tuesday.
"The Tigers remember a time when they had to forfeit a number of matches due to the lack of numbers in the wrestling program," explained assistant coach Blaine Hill. "They traveled to Breckenridge to face a team struggling with those same tough times. The Cowboys thought they were going to forfeit five weight classes, but two last-minutes scratches resulted in seven."
The Tigers lost four of the seven remaining matches that were wrestled and the end result was a 56-22 advantage.
The match started with eighth grader Jared Rohloff winning by a pin over Mason Meyer in 3:25 at 106 pounds. The Tigers then received forfeits at 113 and 120 pounds.
Travis Ostby was then defeated by No. 4 state ranked Conrad Kondos at 126 pounds. The Tigers then received another four forfeits at 132, 138, 145 and 152 pounds.
Treston Hought of Breckenridge defeated Jordan Thooft by pin in 3:16 at 160 pounds.
The Tigers got back on the winning track when Connor Metzger won a 9-2 decision over Michael Whitney at 170 pounds. Alec Gausman then lost by technical fall 18-0 to Zachary Willprecht at 195 pounds.
Joel Harrison then picked up a win for the Tigers with a 16-0 tech fall over Tyler Vold at 220 pounds. The Tigers received their final forfeit at 285 pounds.
