Tigers win rainy softball game
Morris Area defeated Minnewaska 7-3 in the rain Thursday in West Central Conference South softball.
The Lakers' Laura Paulson struck out eight without issuing a walk, but the Tigers plated seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings to seize control.
Caroline Fritz, Dani Schultz and Mary Rentz hit consecutive singles in the fourth to tie the game before a Minnewaska error allowed Morris Area to pull ahead 2-1. Mackenzie Weatherly then gave the Tigers a two-run cushion with her RBI single.
Jordan Stalker, who was 4-for-4, got the Lakers within one in the fifth, but a four-run fifth gave Morris a comfortable margin. Holly Amundson highlighted the frame with a two-run single, while Schultz doubled in a run and Haley Henrichs capped the Morris scoring with an RBI single.
Weatherly survived allowing five extra-base hits to pick up the win. She worked all seven innings and struck out five.
Stalker's single in the first drove in the first run and Abby Kreitlow, who was 3-for-4, singled in a run in the sixth. Stalker was thrown out at home in the seventh after trying to stretch her triple that rolled to the fence into a home run.
