Tigers wrestle at Big Bear Tourney

The Morris Area/Hancock/Chokio-Alberta wrestling team was one of 33 to participate in the Big Bear Tournament at Cass Lake-Bena Dec. 19-20.

At 103 pounds Tony Domnick dropped his first match by fall in 2:17 to Nick Clobes of Hutchinson. Domnick won his next match with a pin in 0:42 over R. Oothoudt of Wheaton/Herman-Norcross. He then won a 4-1 decision over J. Carpenter of Moorhead. His run ended with a fall to F. Wilczek of Little Falls in 0:42.

At 112 pounds Jordan Thooft started the tournament with a fall in 0:42 to B. Stroot of Roseau. He lost his next match by technical fall in 2:15 to Cody Mickle of Deer River.

At 125 pounds Tim Ostby was pinned by D. Kifer of Little Falls with only 19 seconds remaining. Ostby then won his next match over N. Langeberg of Moorhead with a 13-1 major decision. C. Huckbody of Wheaton/Herman-Norcross ended the tournament for Ostby by fall in 0:37.

At 135 pounds Josh Nelson lost an 8-5 decision to O. Sundrud of Fosston/Bagley. Nelson then won three straight matches. First he pinned Kyle Kenyon of United North Central in 0:51, next he pinned F. Drury of Park Rapids Area in 0:47, and then he won a 10-4 decision over Matt Laugen of Fergus Falls. Aaron Ray of West Central Area ended Nelson's streak by a 6-2 decision.

At 152 pounds Tanner Berning lost a 10-4 decision to T. Ingle of Badger/Greenbush-Middle River. Berning also went on a three-match winning streak. First he won by fall in 3:21 over T. Bitker of Aitkin, next he pinned B. Hagen of East Grand Forks/Sacred Heart in 2:28, and then he won a 4-2 decision over C. Rothstein of Crosby Ironton. Kyle Wilson of Deer River ended Berning's tournament run with a fall in 2:15.

Ryan Beyer, wrestling at 171 pounds, lost his first match by fall in 2:26 to Jordan Rice of Barnesville and his second match by fall in 1:58 to Jon Nelson of Lake Park-Audubon.

At 189 pounds Jeff Knobloch dropped his first match by fall in 1:17 to T. Yliniemi of Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton. He then lost by fall in 3:25 to O. Peralta of Thief River Falls/Goodridge.

Zach Gibson, wrestling at 215 pounds, lost his first match by fall in 0:31 to C. Thorson of Fergus Falls. Gibson then defeated G. Robertson of Blackduck/Cass Lake-Bena by forfeit. He then won by fall in 0:49 over Ryan Karl of Roseau and in 2:10 over R. Becicka of Nashwauk-Keewatin/Greenway. His tournament run ended with a fall in 1:41 to C. Wilson of Fosston/Bagley.

At heavyweight, James Newhouse dropped his first match by fall in 2:43 to Jon Doe of Blackduck/Cass Lake-Bena. His next match was a loss to K. Weaver of Park Rapids Area by fall in 0:29.
