Tornado drills planned for Thursday

MORRIS – Stevens County will participate in two siren tornado drills on Thursday, April 24 as part of Minnesota’s Severe Weather Awareness Week.

The first siren will sound at 1:45 p.m. Schools, business and other facilities are encouraged to conduct a tornado drill at this time. The second siren will sound at 6:55 p.m. Severe weather, including tornadoes, occur most often between 3 and 8 p.m. The evening siren gives families and second-shift workers a chance to practice their sheltering plans.

Dispatch will sound the sirens for Morris, Hancock and Alberta. The fire chief's in Donnelly and Chokio will coordinate sounding sirens in those areas.

Kim Ukura began working at the Farmington/Rosemount Independent Town Pages in August of 2016. Previously, she served as the editor of the Morris Sun Tribune for five years. She graduated from the University of Minnesota, Morris in 2008 with degrees in English and journalism. She earned a master's degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2010. Prior to returning to Morris to work at the Sun Tribune, she worked in trade publishing. She has been recognized by the Minnesota Newspaper Association for human interest, multimedia, business and public affairs reporting.
