Track and Field Roundup: Montevideo boys, Morris Area girls 2nd at Section 5A True Team meet
MONTEVIDEO — The Holdingford boys and the Osakis girls won championships at the Section 5A True Team track and field meet on Tuesday.
Montevideo was the runner-up in boys and Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta came in second on the girls side. Those teams enter a wild-card playoff with the runners-up from the other seven sections. One boys team and one girls team will emerge after comparing time and distances to make a nine-team field for the Coaches Association True Team State Meet on May 18 at Stillwater.
Junior Kari Hoeft of Paynesville won the triple jump (32-10), high jump (5-0), 100 hurdles (16.66) and the 300 hurdles (47.69).
In boys, Jacob Peterson of YME took the 100 dash (11.85) and the 200 (23.80). He also won triple jump (41-4). Marcus Cannon of Morris Area claimed the hurdle double going 16.28 in the highs and 41.99 in the 300 intermediates.
Redwood Valley’s Randy Juell went 13-0 in pole vault and 20-6 long jump to win both events by convincing margins.
Each of the 14 teams were allowed two entrants per event and one relay.
The New London-Spicer boys and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle girls won team titles Tuesday at Belgrade.
Reagan Rice (300 hurdles), Chris Nelson (100 dash), 4x200 relay team, Lee Schroeder (shot put), and Lucas Nelson (discus) all won events for the Wildcat boys.
The BBE girls won the 4x100 relay and also had Kelsey Rosengren (discus) and Taylor Gregory (high jump) win an event.
