Senior midfielder Maddy Gerber and junior midfielder Amber O'Connor have been named to the Scholar-Athlete Teams as selected by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
This is the second time Gerber has won the NSCAA honor. She finished her Cougar athletic career last fall as a four-year starter for the Cougars while maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average with a double major in biology and psychology. Gerber also minored in chemistry and plans to attend graduate school this fall.
O'Connor, who was the Cougars' leading scorer in 2009 and an All-UMAC team member, is a biology major as well, holding a 3.5 grade point average. She aspires to attend medical school after graduation in 2011.
"Amber and Maddy are shining examples of what a student-athlete is all about," says head coach Dan Magner. "Both balance the rigors of intensive academic pursuits with athletic competition while making positive contributions to the Morris campus community."
The Cougar women finished 2009 with a 10-10 record and an appearance in the UMAC post-season tournament.
