Two killed in Wednesday afternoon crash near Danvers

DANVERS -- Dale Ehrenberg, 70, of rural Milan, and Michael Kotzer, Sr., 47, of rural Benson, were killed in a head-on collision around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday south of Danvers, according to Swift County Sheriff Scott Mattison.

The crash happened along an S-curve in County Road 17 about three miles south of Danvers.

According to a news release from Mattison, preliminary investigation shows that a southbound pickup truck driven by Ehrenberg crossed the centerline and collided with a northbound pickup truck driven by Kotzer. There were no other passengers in either vehicle.

Due to the severity of the crash, both drivers required extrication from their vehicles. Kotzer was pronounced dead at the crash scene and Ehrenberg was transported to the Swift County-Benson Hospital. Ehrenberg was transported via helicopter to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale where he later died.

The Danvers First Responders, Benson Ambulance, Appleton Ambulance, Danvers Fire Department, Benson Fire Department, State Patrol, Swift County Coroner and Swift County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident. The State Patrol is assisting the Sheriff's Office in the investigation.
