GWSS Discussion Series: Gender and Violence Panel
A gender and violence panel discussion will take place on Monday, April 22, at 5:30 p.m. in Humanities Fine Arts 6. Several times each month faculty members doing gender, women, and sexuality studies (gwss)-related scholarship present their “work in progress.” Each work showcased is at a different stage of production, but all presenters are looking for lively discussion and feedback from the audience.
German Conversation Table
The German Conversation table is an informal opportunity to converse in Deutsch. People with all levels of proficiency are welcome! The German Conversation table is held every Monday at 6 p.m. in the Student Center’s Turtle Mountain Cafe.
On Tuesday, April 23, there will be a Blood Drive from 12:30-6:30 p.m. in the Student Center’s Oyate Hall University Room.
Soup & Substance
On Tuesday, April 23, there will be a Soup & Substance discussion beginning at 6 p.m. in Imholte Hall 112. Held in conjunction with the campus’s Earth Week festivities, the event will explore the issue of e-waste. Soup & Substance is a monthly discussion co-hosted by community and student organizations, with facilitation assistance by Office of Community Engagement staff.
Spanish Conversation Table
Please join us at La Mesa de Conversación en la Universidad de Minnesota, Morris—otherwise known as the Spanish Conversation Table at UMM—on Wednesday, April 24, at 6 p.m. in the Student Center’s Turtle Mountain Cafe. All are welcome! Students, faculty, staff, and community members have casual conversations in Spanish about a variety of topics. Meet new people and improve your Spanish!
Communication, Media, and Rhetoric Spring Guest Speaker
Jimmie Manning, assistant professor of organizational/corporate communication at Northern Illinois University (NIU), will be the spring guest speaker for the Communication, Media, and Rhetoric Discipline. Manning will present on the topic “Fear of a Digital Planet: Overcoming the Anxieties of a Computer-Mediated World” on Thursday, April 25, at 7 p.m. in Humanities Fine Arts 6.
On Thursday, April 25, there will be a Chamber Concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall.
Meiningens One-Act Plays
On Thursday, April 25, Friday, April 26, and Saturday, April 27, the Meiningens student theatre organization will present An Evening of One Acts at 7:30 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts Black Box Theatre. Tickets are available at tickets.umn.edu.
Open Mic Night
On Thursday, April 25, there will be an Open Mic event beginning at 9:30 p.m. in the Student Center’s Turtle Mountain Cafe. Students are welcome to participate and enjoy various performances.
GROWING THE U: Campus and Community visions for sustainable food systems in Minnesota
This event is a University of Minnesota system-wide food summit. The summit will offer participants the chance to gather and discuss system food standards as well as goals and visions for the future of the U of M. The conference will be held from 1 p.m. on Friday, April 26, through noon on Sunday, April 28.
Russian Conversation Table
The Russian Conversation table is an informal opportunity to converse in Russian. People with all levels of proficiency are welcome. It is held every Friday at 4 p.m. in the Student Center’s Turtle Mountain Cafe.
19th Concert in Signs
The 19th Concert in Signs will take place on Saturday April 27, at 1:30 p.m. in Edson Auditorium. Under the direction of Timothy Poore, instructor of American Sign Language (ASL), students will perform songs through the use of sign language.
Chamber Orchestra Concert
On Saturday, April 27, there will be a Chamber Orchestra Concert beginning at 7 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall.
Symphonic Winds Concert
On Sunday, April 28, there will be a Symphonic Winds Concert, beginning at 3 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall. This concert is dedicated to the life and work of Morris music faculty founder and director, Ralph Williams.
