Taste of Asia
The Asian Student Association invites everyone to enjoy a variety of scrumptious Asian dishes on Saturday, April 23, at 5:30 p.m. in the Student Center's Oyate Hall. This annual celebration is unique in that it is prepared and cooked entirely by students, often using family recipes. The program includes performances, a fashion show, and games. Tickets are available in advance in the Student Center or at the door. Only $6 for adults or $3 for children 12 and under for all you can eat. Please direct any questions to ummasa@morris. umn.edu.
Asking the Big Questions
The next gathering of the monthly Asking the Big Questions campus/community discussion series is on Monday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. in the library's McGinnis Room.
The evening will feature an American Indian religions panel and discussion. Guest speaker will be Kent Blansett, teaching specialist in history. Ensemble Peripherie Concert
The campus is pleased to host Ensemble: Périphérie on its inaugural tour. A concert, free and open to the public, will be presented on Monday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall. The newly established group promotes contemporary music by presenting stimulating and inspiring concerts of new chamber works. Ensemble members include award-winning faculty performers and composers representing colleges and universities in four states, including Ann DuHamel, director of piano studies at Morris.
Jazz Combos Concert
Enjoy an evening of jazz performed by the Morris Jazz combos on Tuesday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the HFA Recital Hall.
Morris Healthy Eating Initiative Film Series
Morris Healthy Eating presents the world premiere of "Getting Real about Food and the Future," a new film by Chris Bedford, on Thursday, April 28, at 7 p.m. in Imholte 109.
This just released film explores the role living soil and abundant communities will play in the development of a truly sustainable economy based on human health, local economic activity, and ecological intelligence. The film asks questions like: How will we grow our food? Where will we grow our food? What will real local economy look like? Chris Bedford is both a filmmaker and a strategic campaign/organizing consultant, helping communities meet the challenges of our rapidly growing economic, social and environmental crisis. Join him for a discussion after the film. Free and open to all.
Prairie Yard and Garden
Bernie Angus takes Sue Gooch on a tour of unusual plants homeowners can incorporate into their own landscape design. Perennial grasses, water lilies, roses and more are discussed at the Horticulture Display Garden at the West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC) in Morris. First airing on Thursday, April 28. PY&G airs on Pioneer Public Television on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. through May 5, with rebroadcasts Mondays at 1 p.m. and Saturdays at 4:30 p.m.
Anika Kildegaard will sing in recital on Thursday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m. in HFA 160. No charge.
The Dance Ensemble performs on Friday, April 29, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, April 20, at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. All performances are in Edson Auditorium.
Symphonic Winds Concert
The Symphonic Winds is pleased to announce its last concert of the spring semester on Sunday, May 1, at 3 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall. The concert includes diverse selections by American and international composers. As this is the final concert of the school year, the winners of the Second Annual UMM Concerto Competition, Michael Gill '11, Granite Falls, and Samantha Chevalier '11, Paynesville, will be featured. Gill will perform the alto saxophone solo Oblivion by Astor Piazolla. This piece showcases Gill's laid back jazzy style while Chevalier's vocal, "O Mio Babbino Caro," is a famous aria from the opera Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini. Tickets will be sold at the door and in advance at the information desk in the UMM Student Center.
Senior Piano and Voice Recital
