Chamber Concert

On Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall, the UMM Chamber Ensembles will present a chamber concert. This regular concert series, performed by the UMM Brass Ensemble, Chamber Winds, Chamber Choir, and Jazz Octet, features a varied program of diverse repertoire for small ensembles. Free admission; no ticket required.

Jane Addams Project

The Jane Addams Project is a cross-cultural discussion circle for Spanish- and English-speaking Morris residents and UMM students. The discussion will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Imholte Hall 111.

Donna Chollett Book Reception

On Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 5 p.m. in the LaFave House, there will be a reception in honor of Donna Chollett, associate professor of anthropology, and the publication of her new book. Chollett’s Neoliberalism, Social Exclusion, and Social Movements: Resistance and Dissent in Mexico’s Sugar Industry critically examines struggles for social justice in an era of enduring neoliberal globalization. She will present a short talk on her book at 6 p.m.

Spanish Conversation Table

Please join us at La Mesa de Conversación en la Universidad de Minnesota, Morris, otherwise known as the Spanish Conversation Table at UMM, on Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Student Center’s Turtle Mountain Cafe. All are welcome! Students, faculty, staff, and community members have casual conversations in Spanish about a variety of topics. Meet new people and improve your Spanish!

UMM Art Club Holiday Sale

The UMM Art Club will host its annual holiday art sale Dec. 5 to 7 in the Edward J. and Helen Jane Morrison Gallery. The sale will be open on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 5 to 9 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 6, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Russian Conversation Table

The Russian Conversation table is an informal opportunity to converse in Russian. People with all levels of proficiency are welcome! It is held every Friday at 4 p.m. in the Student Center’s Turtle Mountain Cafe.

2013 Carol Concert: Winter Wonderland

The 2013 Carol Concert will be held Dec. 6 to 8 at Assumption Catholic Church. Featuring seasonal favorites and well-known choral arrangements, the annual concert promises festive holiday music and entertainment inspired by a bygone era. Performance times are as follows: Friday, Dec. 6, at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. A meal prepared by Bello Cucina will be available at an additional cost. Dinners will be served in the lower level of Assumption Church 90 minutes prior to each performance. Tickets for the concert may be purchased online at tickets.umn.edu or by phone at 320-589-6077. Tickets for both the dinner and concert are also available. Seating is limited, so advanced purchase is recommended.

Dance Ensemble: Dance with Me Tonight

On Friday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 1 p.m. in the Student Center’s Edson Auditorium, the Dance Ensemble will present its fall 2013 recital. It will showcase 17 different dances inspired by this year’s theme: Olly Mur’s “Dance With Me Tonight.” These dances have been choreographed by students and cover a range of styles including contemporary, hip-hop, jazz, theatrical, and even an exciting tap number. A pre-show performed by UMM’s Modern and Contemporary dance class will be performed an hour before the recital in Edson Auditorium. Just show your Dance Ensemble ticket for admission.

Winter Concert—UMM Symphonic Winds and Chamber Orchestra

On Sunday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall, the UMM Symphonic Winds and Chamber Orchestra will present Winter Concert. The Symphonic Winds, under the direction of Simon Tillier, and Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Joel Salvo, will perform core works from the repertoire in addition to some seasonal favorites.
