Performing Arts Series: Step Afrika
The Step Afrika dance troupe will perform in Edson Auditorium on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 7:30 p.m. While the art form of "stepping" is universal, Step Afrika embraces a unique tradition that grew out of the song and dance rituals practiced by historically African American fraternities and sororities in the early 1900s, using the body as an instrument to create intricate rhythms and sounds through a combination of footsteps, claps, and spoken word. For ticket information, call 320-589-6080 or visit the Performing Arts Series website http://www.mrs.umn.edu/newsevents/performingarts/.
Step Master Class
In addition to the evening performance, Step Afrika will present a Step Master Class on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 11 a.m. until noon in HFA 125. The class is free and open to the public.
