Humorist John Hodgman Speaks on Campus
John Hodgman, a New York Times bestselling author and the "resident expert" on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, offers a night of silliness and laughs at "That is All, An Evening With John Hodgman" on Feb. 11, at 8 p.m. in Edson Auditorium. You might also recognize him as the "PC man" from Apple computer commercials. Tickets available.
The UMM Improv Club courageously follows John Hodgman with "Breakfast for Dinner," their first show of the Spring 2012 semester, on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 9:30 p.m. in the Student Center, Turtle Mountain Café. Free and open to all.
Athena Kildegaard Book Readings and Signings
Just in time for Valentine's Day, Athena Kildegaard, poet and lecturer, will be reading from and signing her new book, Cloves & Honey at two events. The first will be on Sunday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. in the McGinnis Room of the Briggs Library. This will also be an open mic night where everyone is invited to read a favorite love poem--their own or by someone else. A reception will follow. The second reading will be held at the Prairie Renaissance Cultural Alliance (PRCA) at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 13. Cloves & Honey came about as the result of the author's year-long discipline of writing a single love poem every day.
Jane Addams Meeting
Jane Addams, a community building project between UMM students, Morris community members, and the Hispanic community in and around Morris, will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 6:30 p.m. in Imholte Hall 111. Language circles in both languages serve to promote the bonding of the community.
Black History Month Movie
The Women of Color Association will screen "Good Hair," a 2009 film in which comedian Chris Rock explores the wonders of African-American hairstyles, on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 7 p.m. in the Student Center's Edson Auditorium. Free and open to the public.
Play in a Day
Meinengens, UMM's student theatre group, will perform a play with only one day's preparation on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 10 p.m. in the Student Center's Edson Auditorium. Free and open to all.
