Homecoming Choir and Symphonic Winds Concert
Students and alumni will present the annual Homecoming Concert with performances by Concert Choir, Symphonic Winds, and Alumni Concert Band on Sunday, Sept. 23. The concert will begin at 2 p.m. in the HFA Recital Hall with a post-concert reception to follow.
Sterling Evans, Louise Welsh chair of Oklahoma, southern plains, and borderlands history at the University of Oklahoma, will be the featured speaker in this year's O. Truman Driggs Distinguished Lecture in History, which will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the HFA Recital Hall. Evans's lecture, "Nothing New About NAFTA: Connecting the Northern Plains (and Minnesota) to a Greater North American History," will address a variety of different angles involved in North American grain production during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Jane Addams Project
Bringing the University, Morris area, and Hispanic communities together, the student and community member-led community-building project "Jane Addams" will meet on Tuesday evenings throughout the year at 7 p.m. in Imholte 111. Everyone is welcome.
Spanish Conversation Table
Come join fellow Spanish-speakers at La Mesa de Conversación en la Universidad de Minnesota, Morris, otherwise known as the Spanish Conversation Table at UMM, Wednesdays at 6 p.m. in the Turtle Mountain Cafe. All are welcome! Students, faculty, staff, and community members have casual conversations in Spanish about a variety of topics. Meet new people and improve your Spanish weekly!
Tournées Festival of French Films
The French Discipline and Entre Nous, a group of Morris francophiles, are pleased to announce the 2012 Tournées Festival of French and Francophone Films. Selected by student officers in Entre Nous, the Festival includes five new, award-winning feature films. The campus and the public are invited to attend these free screenings subtitled in English. The fifth film in the series, presented on Wednesday, Sept. 26 in the Science Auditorium will be Le Gamin au vélo/The Kid with a Bike, directed by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne.
Don't miss this popular family event! The Popcorn Concert variety show, sponsored by the UMM Choir, will be held on Thursday, Sept. 27, 7:30 p.m. in the Student Center Oyate Hall.
CAC Concerts Open Mic Night
Come enjoy an evening of entertainment provided by UMM students. The first of these monthly events, sponsored by CAC Concert, will be held on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 9:30 p.m. in the Student Center Turtle Mountain Cafe. All are invited to attend.
PAS Cirque Zuma Zuma
Cirque Zuma Zuma, the first event of this year's Performing Arts Series, will take place on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Edson Auditorium. A finalist in the 2011 America's Got Talent! competition, Cirque Zuma Zuma is a Kenyan-inspired acrobatics troupe that specializes in human pyramids, percussion, limbo dancing, and tumbling. Audiences can expect to be mesmerized by this unique experience.
