The University of Minnesota, Morris will host a collaborative performance and installation event featuring Beth Winterfeldt, pianist, and Nicole Roberts Hoiland, sculptor, on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 3 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall. Winterfeldt will perform Richard Danielpour's The Enchanted Garden Preludes alongside Hoiland's sculptural work, which is inspired by the music.
Soup & Substance
On Monday, Oct. 8, there will be a discussion group held on the 2012 Minnesota Constitutional Amend-ments in Humanities 111 from 5 until 7 p.m.
Jane Addams Project
The Jane Addams Project is a cross-cultural discussion circle for Spanish and English-speaking Morris residents and UMM students. The discussion will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 7 until 9 p.m. in Imholte Hall 111.
Book Group--Wild Comfort
On Tuesday, Oct. 9, there will be a Book Group meeting from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Briggs Library McGinnis Room, discussing Wild Comfort.
MCSA World Café for Mental Health Awareness Week
On Tuesday, Oct. 9, MCSA will host a speaker in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Week. in the Student Center's Oyate Hall from 6:45 to 8 p.m., followed by a World Café style discussion group from 8 to 10 p.m. in Imholte 109 and Turtle Mountain Café, Student Center.
Lois McMaster Bujold Reading and Q&A
On Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. in Imholte 109 Lois McMaster Bujold will read from her newest book and answer questions from the audience. A reception with light refreshments will follow. Bujold is an award-winning science fiction and fantasy author. Many of her works are part of three separate book series: the Vorkosigan Saga, the Chalion Series, and the Sharing Knife series. The event is sponsored by Anthropology, Sociology, English, the Briggs Library, and the Dean's Office.
Spanish Conversation Table
On Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 6 p.m. in Turtle Mountain Café, please join La Mesa de Conversación en la Universidad de Minnesota, Morris, otherwise known as the Spanish Conversation Table at UMM. All are welcome! Students, faculty, staff, and community members have casual conversations in Spanish about a variety of topics. Meet new people and improve your Spanish.
Prairie Festival Presentation
On Thursday, Oct. 11, from 8 to 9 p.m. in Imholte 101 students who attended the Land Institute's Prairie Festival in Salina, Kan. will hold a presentation on significant environmental, political, and agricultural issues addressed during the conference.
2012 Festival of Spanish Language Cinema
The 2012 Festival of Spanish Language Cinema will continue with Post Morten (directed by Pablo Larrain, 2012) on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. at the Morris Theatre on 6th Street. Not rated. All screenings are free and subtitled when available.
