German Conversation Table
The German Conversation table is an informal opportunity to converse in Deutsch. The German Conversation table is held every Monday at 6 p.m. in the Student Center’s Turtle Mountain Cafe.
GWSS Discussion Series: "Sex and Tourism: The Legacy of Prostitution in the American West"
On Tuesday, April 2, at 5:30 p.m. in Imholte Hall 109 there will be a GWSS discussion entitled “Sex and Tourism: The Legacy of Prostitution in the American West.” Several times each month faculty members doing gender, women, and sexuality studies (gwss)-related scholarship will present their “work in progress.” All the presenters are looking for lively discussion and feedback from the audience.
The next Café Scientifique will take place on Tuesday, April 2, at 6 p.m. at the Common Cup Coffeehouse (501 Atlantic Avenue, Morris). Tracey Anderson, associate professor of biology, will lead the discussion, entitled "Challenges old and new: issues facing prairie pothole lakes in west central Minnesota.” All are welcome to attend, and audience participation is encouraged.
Annual Edith R. Farrell French Poetry Contest
The 27th Annual Edith R. Farrell French Poetry Contest will be held on Tuesday, April 2, at 7 p.m. in the Student Center’s Oyate Hall. The event serves as a showcase for students to share the beauty of French language and verse from across the francophone world. It also celebrates the induction of new members into the French National Honor Society Pi Delta Phi.
Science and Math Visiting Alumni Speaker
Morris is pleased to welcome Tammy Rittenour ’96, PhD, as the 2013 Science and Math Visiting Alumni Speaker. Rittenour will present a public lecture entitled “Using a Unique Property of Sand to Unravel the History of Archaeological sites in the Southwestern U.S.” on Tuesday, April 2, at 7 p.m. in the Science Auditorium (Science 2950). A reception will follow.
French Conversation Table
The French Conversation table is an informal opportunity to converse in French. The French Conversation table is held every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Student Center’s Turtle Mountain Cafe.
Spanish Conversation Table
Please join us at La Mesa de Conversación en la Universidad de Minnesota, Morris—otherwise known as the Spanish Conversation Table at UMM—on Wednesday, March 27, at 6 p.m. in the Student Center’s Turtle Mountain Cafe. All are welcome!
Jane Addams Project
The Jane Addams Project is a cross-cultural discussion circle for Spanish- and English-speaking Morris residents and students. The discussion will be held on Tuesday, March 26, at 7 p.m. in Imholte Hall 111.
Russian Conversation Table
The Russian Conversation table is an informal opportunity to converse in Russian. It is held every Friday at 4 p.m. in the Student Center’s Turtle Mountain Cafe.
Jazz Fest 2013
The 35th annual UMM Jazz Festival will be held Friday, April 5-Saturday, April 6.
Performances will be held nightly in the Student Center's Edson Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. As is tradition, the West Central All Stars will open the Friday evening performance, while the UMM Alumni Jazzers will play on Saturday night. Tickets are available by phone at 320-589-6077, online at tickets.umn.edu, or in-person at the Office of Student Activities, Conferences and Special Events (Student Center 15).
A Community Coffee will be held in honor of University of Minnesota President Eric Kaler on Saturday, April 6, at 9 a.m. in Welcome Center 122. All are invited to this casual “meet-and-greet” event hosted by Chancellor Jacqueline Johnson. Free parking is available in the North Lot.
29th Annual CNIA Powwow
The Circle of Nations Indigenous Association (CNIA) will hold the 29th Annual CNIA Powwow on Saturday, April 6, in the Physical Education (P.E.) Center. This one-day cultural celebration is the commencing event of the annual World Touch Cultural Heritage Week. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. Grand entries are at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
