UPDATE: Blizzard warning for Stevens County through 4 p.m.

A blizzard warning is effect until 4 p.m. Saturday in Stevens County.

The National Weather Service reports that northwest winds will strengthen to 25 miles per hour with gusts to 40 miles per hour. Visibility will be a few hundred feet or less during the morning.

White conditions are possible and no travel is advised. Wind chills of 20 degrees below zero to 30 below zero are expected.

Here's today's forecast:

New:Year's Day: Snow showers and widespread blowing snow before noon, then areas of blowing snow and scattered snow showers between noon and 3 p.m., then areas of blowing snow after 3 p.m. High near 5. Wind chill values between -16 and -21. Windy, with a northwest wind between 23 and 31 mph, with gusts as high as 41 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around -13. Wind chill values between -21 and -27. Blustery, with a west wind 18 to 21 mph decreasing to between 6 and 9 mph. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph.

Sunday: Partly sunny and cold, with a high near 5. Wind chill values between -16 and -26. Southwest wind around 6 mph.
