Verna Lauraine (Karsten) Rinkenberger
A memorial service for Verna Lauraine (Karsten) Rinkenberger of Chokio, will be held Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Chokio. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church. Lunch served following service. Pastor Gloria Anderson will serve as clergy.
Verna was called home to be with Our Lord on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011 at the Glenwood Lakeview, Good Samaritan Society, having lived 88 years and 3 months.
Verna L. (Karsten) Rinkenberger, daughter of Joseph and Pearl (Fields) Karsten, was born July 13, 1923 in Stevens County, Chokio, on her parent's farm north of Chokio.
Verna graduated from Morris High School in 1941. On Feb. 24, 1947, was united in marriage to Marlyn J. Rinkenberger. They farmed north of Chokio until retirement and then rented the land out. They continued living on the farm until Marlyn took sick in 2008. Verna and Marlyn worked together also doing open class exhibits at many different county fairs for more then 50 years. Verna enjoyed her farm, gardening, playing the accordion, canning, visiting with neighbors, cooking for her family, animals and watching the birds. Verna was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Marlyn J. Rinkenberger; brothers Revellyn Karsten, Ruppert Karsten; sister Violet (Karsten) Baity; son-in-law Darrel Mau; daughter LaVerna (Susie) Mau; son Murl Rinkenberger and great grandson Jimmy Mau.
Left to cherish her memory are her three sons: John (Bonnie) Rinkenberger of Chokio, Marson 'CHRIS' (Sue) Rinkenberger of Shoreview; and Marshall (Carolyn) Rinkenberger of Clearwater, 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Honorary pallbearers: Doyle Anderson, Audrey Erickson, Jim Erickson, Larry Hartman, Maggie Lind, Delano Lind, Ardath Luikens and Randy Schmiesing.
Interment will at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, with her husband Marlyn.
Cremation service by Cremation Society of Minnesota, Brooklyn Park Chapel, Brooklyn Park.
