Virgil C. Thielke
Funeral services for Virgil C. Thielke, age 72, of Benson will be held Friday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson, with Pastor John Martinson officiating. Burial will be in the Benson City Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday, Sept. 9 from 4-7 p.m. at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church. Visitation will continue at the church for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.
Virgil Carl Thielke was born March 21, 1938 in Marysland Township, Swift County, to Carl Henry and Esther Ella Elisabeth (Platow) Thielke. He was baptized as an infant, and confirmed on June 3, 1951 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hancock. He attended grade school in rural Clontarf, and graduated from Benson High School with the Class of 1956.
Virgil was united in marriage with Iola Orlyne Steffenson on Dec. 6, 1958 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus. This union was blessed with three children and 51 years of marriage.
Virgil worked with Chamberlain Oil Co., Jennie-O Foods, Standard Lumber Co., Glacial Plains Cooperative, Swenson Motors Company, AgVise and Flower Basket. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood working, watching baseball and spending time with his family, grandchildren and coffee friends. He also loved to attend his children and grandchildren's many sporting and school events. He took great pride in caring for their lawn, boat and vehicles. Virgil was a member of 4-H, former Mayor, Chief of Police and Fire Chief of Clontarf and usher at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, Benson. Virgil was called from this life on Monday, Sept. 6, 2010 at his home from cancer. He attained the age of 72 years, 5 months and 15 days.
Virgil is survived by his wife Iola, children Jodie (Gregory) Kent Heuring, Jeffrey (Jayne) Thielke and Jennifer (David) Ebert, all of Benson; grandchildren: Alyssa Kent, Kristina Kent, Brian Thielke, Benjamin Thielke (special friend Nicole Wiebold), Katrina Ebert (special friend Josh Kieke), Andrew Ebert, Rachel Ebert; step-grandchildren: Heather (Heuring) McVinua, Kari Heuring, Jamie (Vanda) Heuring and Joshua Heuring (special friend Bianca Gilbert); six step-great grandchildren; brother Delroy (Jane) Thielke; sister-in-law Eyvonne Thielke; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents Carl and Esther Thielke; his brother LaVaughn Thielke; his sister Shelda Stiel and brother-in-law Charles Stiel; parents-in-law Albert and Gudrun Steffenson; and son-in-law Arnie Kent.
