WCA avenges early season loss to Tigers
The Morris Area / Chokio-Alberta / Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley girls tennis team fell 4-3 to West Central Area in Barrett on Thursday, Aug. 28, allowing WCA to avenge an early season loss to the Tigers in the opening week of the season.
Victoria Tiernan got a win for the Tigers at third singles, defeating opponent Brittany Randt in a third set tiebreaker 10-8.
Rachel Wagner and Sarah Jackson also got a win at second doubles, taking their opponents into a third set tiebreaker and winning 10-7.
Kaitlin Asmus and Hannah Harste easily swept the competition at third doubles, taking the victory over WCA’s Hannah Wutzke and Maddie Larsen 6-1, 6-0.
Head coach Brittany House said it was a tough loss since the girls edged out a 4-3 win when the Tigers hosted the Knights at the start of the season.
“We were missing a few girls from our original lineup,” House said. “Hopefully we can use this loss as motivation in practices and matches this week.”
The Tigers travel to Granite Falls to take on Yellow Medicine East today (Tuesday, Sept. 2) and host West Central Conference rival Benson on Thursday, Sept. 4. Both meets begin at 4:30 p.m.
