Wednesday's Area Weather:
We had an interesting week last week. Snow moved across the state along with chilly temperatures. Three to five inches of snow fell across Northeasten Minnesota. In fact, Grand Rapids reported about five inches of snow! A quarter to three-quarters of inch of snow was reported from Moorhead, Detroit Lakes, Little Falls to Brainerd.
Trace amounts were found across a good share of other parts of Central Minnesota and parts of Southern Minnesota. This is not unusual. St. Cloud averages about .20" of snow for the month of May. The good news was that drier air arrived just in time for Mother's Day weekend. Temperatures were unseasonably cool, however.
Another system arrived Sunday night into Monday and Tuesday and brought some showers. More rain is likely for Wednesday and Thursday of this week. We should see some drier air for Saturday and the big Fishing Opener in Minnesota. Right now it looks partly cloudy for Saturday with just a slight chance of rain. Highs should be in the 60s with a southwest wind of about 10 to 15 mph. Sunrise for you early anglers will be at 5:50 a.m. on Saturday. We could see the return to the 70s for Sunday and Monday. There will continue to be slight chances of rain for Sunday and Monday. It is spring afterall; it is an active month.
Have a great rest of the week and weekend. Good luck to you anglers going after those big walleyes!
In 1922 temperatures dropped all across the state. For example, at Morris, the temperature dropped from 91 to 26 degrees!
Wind is caused by the difference in pressure from one point on the earth's surface to another. That is why spring is very windy.
