What is the summer solstice? The summer solstice is the moment of the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere is determined by when Earth's North Pole axis is tilted most directly toward the sun. When this is occurring in the Northern Hemisphere, the Earth's South Pole axis is tilted most directly away from the sun, which marks the first day of winter in the Southern Hemisphere.

For many the start of summer begins on Memorial Day Weekend. In the meteorological community the first day of summer arrives on June 1. We should have some summer weather for the first day of summer as temperatures should be in the upper 70s and lower 80s with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. I know many of you are hoping for some warmer temperatures as a good share of the month of June hasn't been real warm. Have a great weekend and enjoy the last days of spring!

WEATHER HISTORY

In 1992 a total of 27 tornadoes were reported across Minnesota, which is the most in a single day. Some communities that were badly damaged were Chandler, Lake Wilson, Clarkfield and Cokato. The total damage was 80 million dollars.
