Wesley H. Schlauderaff, 87, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at St. Mary's Nursing Center of Detroit Lakes.
Wesley Henry Schlauderaff was born to Henry and Lydia (Bohnsack) Schlauderaff on May 21, 1920 in Detroit Lakes, where he was raised and attended school at District 39. He married Anna Amundson from Ogema on Nov. 6, 1945 in Detroit Lakes. He lived his entire life in the same house, on the farm where he was born.
He farmed with his Dad and brother Harvey until 1952. From that point forward, he stayed on the home farm and continued to raise dairy animals and field crops, with the help of his 14 children, until he retired in 1981.
Wesley belonged to Holy Rosary Church, Cormorant amd Becker County sportsman's clubs and Knights of Columbus. He loved nature and was fond of all animals, especially horses, birds, cattle and dogs. His hobbies were hunting (in Montana, Wyoming and Minnesota), gardening, fishing and participating in the annual Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion at Rollag.
He won honorary FFA "Fair Builder of the Past" award. He delivered "Meals on Wheels" for many years throughout Detroit Lakes. He also belonged to the Cattle Shipper's Association Board and the local coop-creamery.
He will be remembered and missed by his wife of 62 years, Anna Schlauderaff of Detroit Lakes; six daughters, Roxanne (Merlin) Engum of Detroit Lakes, Linda (John) Schons of Detroit Lakes, Patricia Johnson (Walter Draack) of Frazee, Bonnie (Alfred) Olds of Detroit Lakes, Barbara (Lionel) St. Goddard of West Hawk Lake, Manitoba and Joyce (Wallace) Holm of Detroit Lakes; eight sons, Daniel (Barbara) Schlauderaff of Detroit Lakes, Gary (Barbara) Schlauderaff of Detroit Lakes, Frank (Sue) Schlauderaff of Hankinson, N.D., Tim (Stephanie) Schlauderaff of Barnesville, Jeff (Linda) Schlauderaff of Detroit Lakes, Wayne (Dawn) Schlauderaff of Detroit Lakes, Bruce Schlauderaff of Detroit Lakes and Mark (Sherri) Schlauderaff of St. Michael, Minn.; 29 grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 26 step-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his dog Buddy.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one son, one infant daughter, one granddaughter, two grandsons, one great grandson, one great granddaughter, one sister, Mable Egan and three brothers, Henry, Delbert and Harvey.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11, with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., all at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes.
A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, in Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
The David Donehower Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes is assisting the family with arrangements.
