FERGUS FALLS, MINN -- West Central Initiative (WCI) has officially unveiled a new logo.
The regional community foundation replaced the "W" and grid resembling a financial chart with a simple visual representation of the nine counties WCI serves, and an outline of the state of Minnesota.
"If you want to know what is most important to the board and staff of West Central Initiative, you need only look at our new logo and the nine west central Minnesota counties featured prominently there: Becker, Clay, Douglas, Grant, Otter Tail, Pope, Stevens, Traverse and Wilkin," said WCI President Nancy Straw. "Paired with our tagline, 'Investing resources in our communities for regional success,' it visually demonstrates WCI's devotion to making our region the best place in which to live and work.
"Our old logo showed our commitment to economic growth for the region, but that wasn't always obvious to people," Straw continued. "While 'west central' is in WCI's name, it was still unclear to many what area WCI actually served. People have guessed everything from the Twin Cities west central metro area to the west central states of the U.S. There's no guessing where and who we serve now. Our new logo let's you know immediately what is at the heart of our mission: serving to improve the nine counties that form west central Minnesota."
WCI continues to invest primarily in economic development in the region, along with community development and promoting philanthropy. The foundation uses a community-led approach that creates locally controlled assets and invests them to strengthen rural places. It also builds a community's ability to shape a better future and promote the well-being of all community members.
"We learned early on in our 26 years that we can do the most good by finding the most effective ways to use our funds and utilize the resources at hand," Straw said. "We form partnerships, listen to community and regional wisdom, research and gather data, then combine all of these resources to guide decisions."
