Wins continue for MBA Storm girls
The Morris Benson Area girls' hockey team picked up two more wins at home defeating Windom Saturday in Benson and the Blue Devils Tuesday in Morris. The wins improve the Storm's season record to 13-4.
Brooke Falk added another shutout to her record, her third in four games, with an 8-0 Storm win over Windom.
"The Storm had a very balanced attack, with seven different players scoring and eight players earning points for the afternoon," said coach Jeff Mahoney. "The team played extremely well, cycling the puck well and playing stellar defense limiting the Windom team to only nine total shots with only one in the third period."
The Storm went up 2-0 after the first period with goals by Kelly Mahoney, assisted by Dani Schultz and Monica Lindblad, and Sam Falk, assisted by Brooke Anderson and Sara Rajewsky.
In the second period, Anderson scored off of assists from Emily Rajewsky and Dani Staples, Schultz scored off assists from Sam Falk and Mahoney, and Monica Lindblad scored off a Sara Rajewsky pass.
In the third period, Sara Rajewsky scored twice, once unassisted and the other goal off of an Abby Knutson pass. Anderson scored her second goal of the game on an assist from Schultz.
Brooke Falk made nine saves for the Storm.
Windom's goalie stopped 48 Storm shots.
On Tuesday in Morris, the Storm defeated Long Prairie - Grey Eagle/ Wadena-Deer Creek for the second time this season 6-1.
The Storm hit the ice and the goal with the first puck 0:23 into the game off the unassisted stick of Schultz. MBA was then called for a cross check in front of the home net and the Blue Devils capitalized burning the MBA defense for a power-play goal 15:21 into the first period.
Brooke Falk had seven saves and the Blue Devils had 14 in the first period.
The Storm continued the onslaught of pucks at the Blue Devil goalie in the second period. The offensive line of Sam Falk, Schultz and Mahoney hit the ice and Schultz scored off of Falk's pass. The next goal was by Falk on a power play. The defense put together the third goal of the period with Anderson getting the pass from defensive partner Staples.
Brooke Falk recorded five saves and the Blue Devils stopped 12.
The Storm increased their lead in the third period with a short-handed goal by Staples, unassisted. She had taken it all the way around the net and rushed the goalie. Sara Rajewsky picked up another goal on a power-play option to close out the scoring in the third.
Brooke Falk had nine saves for MBA and the Blue Devils stopped three.
