The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta boys' golf team lost three seniors from last season, leaving coach Jerry Witt with a young varsity team for 2011.

"The oldest kids were sophomores," said Witt. "Subsequently, all six sophomores golfed all but one meet."

Those six sophomores gained a lot of experience this season. They are Andrew Rentz, Zach Giese, Mickey Cotter, James Burke, Michael Anderson, and Jordan Kolden.

Kolden finished fourth overall in the West Central Conference South and advanced to the section golf meet.

"Jordan had another stellar year," explained Witt. "With the exception of one meet, he always turned in the team's lowest score. We really counted on him."

While different golfers had good scores at each meet, it was difficult to put together four low scores at a time.

"We didn't fare as well as we thought we could have," Witt said.

Giese and Rentz had the low scores of 40 at one West Central meet.

Cotter, Anderson, and Burke shaved some significant strokes off their scores.

"They got their game down to pretty respectable scores," added Witt. "They got a lot of experience and improved along the way."

The weather didn't help matters. Rain caused several postponements. During the second and third weeks in May the team had eight meets in two weeks.

Next season looks promising with the returning players, including five freshman from this season and a dozen at the junior high level.
