Weekend holds early taste of winter
By: Mark Anthony, Morris Sun Tribune
A taste of winter is in the air despite the fact that it is only the second week of October. There is the possibility of a little light snow for Friday night and into the weekend! If you are planning any outdoor activities this weekend, do dress warmly as temperatures will fall into the 30s with a chance of light snow! Temperatures today will be about 15 degrees cooler than average. By the way, the eastern sky holds "harbingers of the winter constellations to come." By 9 or 10 p.m. tonight Capella will show up in the northeast. To its right, at about the same height in the east-northeast, the Pleiades are coming into view. Have fun checking out these sights in the sky, but bundle-up as it will be cold this weekend. Believe it or not, winter is more than two months away...
Weather History:
In 1938 forest fires on October 9th and 10th claimed 21 lives in northern Minnesota.
Weather fact:
The sunniest place on Earth is the South Pole! The reason it is snow covered is because the snow reflects 50-90 percent of the sunlight it receives and the temperature rarely rises above freezing.
