Earlier this summer, when I was in Washington D.C. with my daughter, Barb, we visited the Holocaust Museum. I believe this is a must see for every American. It is hard to imagine that so many lives could have been destroyed by one man or group of men who believed that being a Jew meant you had to be destroyed, because you weren't a Christian. This makes me question their meaning of being a Christian. What is interesting is the fear and hate that was injected into the people, who by the way were suffering poor economic times. Does that sound familiar?
Another monument we visited was the Jefferson Memorial.
On the wall was this inscription written by Jefferson that I found interesting and very fitting. It said, "Almighty God hath created the mind free all attempts to influence it by temporal punishments or burthens...are a departure from the plan of the Holy Author, of our religion...No man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship or ministry or shall otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions or belief. But all men shall be free to profess and by argument to maintain, their opinions in matters of religion. I know but one code of morality for men whether acting singly or collectively." Thomas Jefferson
I took a picture of this quote and have it above my computer to help me remember what a wonderful country we live in and all of the freedoms I, and you, enjoy. Let's not lose it.
Have a good day!
