Kobberman to teach social studies in Hancock
It could be a fun year for students in 7-12 social studies at Hancock this year. That is because the new teacher has a lot of fun things planned for the students.

Tiffany Kobberman is the new Hancock Social Studies teacher. She grew up in Redwood Falls but met her husband, Dan, while attending college at South Dakota State in Brookings. She and Dan were married in 2002 and moved to rural Hancock.
Her initial degree was in Animal Science but when unable to find a job in this field, Tiffany went back to school at University of Minnesota, Morris and got her Social Science degree. While at UMM, Tiffany student taught in Hancock under Matt Hone. Since then, she has taught in Benson, one year of basic skills and two years of social studies.
Kobberman has also been busy raising a family with four children, Katelyn, 5, Johnny, 4, Tate, 2 and Hallie, 1. Katelyn will be in kindergarten this year and Johnny in pre-school at Hancock Elementary.
The courses Kobberman will be teaching are 7-12 social studies including civics, government, history, sociology, economics and geography. Within these courses she hopes to use local resources for speakers, field trips and research.
The geography class may be able to host speakers from West Central Research and Outreach Center and UMM. Local veterans might be invited to speak to students about war times. One class will Skype KSAX News weather for educational purposes. In civics, Kobberman would like to incorporate some type of service learning project and in government/economics the classes can learn from fall elections. This class will also have local government leaders and bank representatives visit the class.
“I hope to not take everything out of books,” Kobberman explained. She likes to teach in more of a hands on/artsy crafty manner.
When not teaching or taking care of their children, the Kobberman family is busy attending ranch rodeos and horse shows. She serves on the Swift County Open Beef Board and Dan is on the Glacial Ridge Cattlemen Association. Tiffany and Dan are very involved with 4-H projects with their nephews.
The couple currently lives in Clontarf, but hope to soon move to the family farm east of Hancock where they raise beef cattle. She added that her children love the farm and rodeo life. In fact, don’t be too surprised if you meet four-year-old Johnny and he proudly introduces himself with “I’m Johnny Albert, the cowboy”.
Kobberman is very excited to start her full-time teaching career in Hancock and is equally as hopeful that the kids will like coming to her classroom every day.
