Lemke paces Tiger boys cross country to two top-5 finishes
The Morris Area boys cross country team placed in the top five in two recent meets.
The Tigers boys team placed fifth at the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Invitational on Sept. 14, and finished fourth at the Brooten-Belgrade-Elrose Invitational on Sept. 10.
Tigers at LP-GE
Stefan Lemke finished the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes, 50 seconds and in sixth place to lead Morris Area to a fifth-place finish at the LP-GE meet.
Morris Area finished with 120 points, behind meet winner LP-GE (46 points), Little Falls (88), Albany (95) and Sauk Centre (114). West Central Area (135), New London-Spicer (144), Litchfield (180) and Lac qui Parle Valley (200) rounded out the top nine.
The Tigers' Roy Reese (18th, 18:44) and Austin Schieler (19th, 18:46) cracked the individual top 20, followed by Dan Tiernan (31st, 19:31), Nate Fangmeier (56th, 21:10), Matt Cotter (21:48) and John Zierke (67th, 22:06).
Morris Area did not figure in the team scoring in the girls meet, which was won by New London-Spicer with 65 points. Little Falls was second in the 13-team meet with 70 points, Albany placed third with 74 points and Sauk Centre was fourth with 81 points.
Morris Area runners in the 5,000-meter race included Sarah Kuhn (40th, 18:49), Monserrat Mendez (50th, 20:26), Tahni Jungst (55th, 22:07.37) and Julie Sauder (56th, 22:07.61).
Boys 4th at BBE
The Morris Area boys cross country team placed fourth and the girls placed 11th among 15 teams at the Brooten-Belgrade-Elrosa Invitational on Sept. 10.
The Tigers boys team finished with 120 points behind meet winner Albany (52), Sauk Centre (98) and New London-Spicer (99). Montevideo was fifth (136) and Redwood Valley was sixth (170).
Morris Area's Stefan Lemke placed sixth among 82 runners on the 5,000-meter course. Lemke finished in 17 minutes, 56 seconds. Other Morris runners included Roy Reese (13th, 18:29), Austin Schieler (23rd, 19:14), Daniel Tiernan (27th, 19:28), Nate Fangmeier (51st, 20:57), Matt Cotter (53rd, 21:05) and John Zierke (58th, 21:34).
Tigers girls runners on the 4,000-meter course included Sarah Kuhn (45th, 18:26), Adrianela Mendez (66th, 19:45), Monserrat Mendez (70th, 20:09), Julie Sauder (75th, 21:19) and Tahni Jungst (80th, 22:28).
