Tigers finish season third in Section 3AA
High school baseball comes to an end for two Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta seniors, Sam Mattson and Brody Bahr, while the rest of the Tiger team will have to wait until next season to make another run at the state tournament.
The Tigers were eliminated from the Section 3AA tournament Tuesday with a 7-2 loss to Fairmont. Fairmont advances to play New Ulm in the section championship Thursday, but will have to win twice to claim the title and a trip to the state tournament. The Tigers had defeated Fairmont 7-1 last week to stay undefeated in the double elimination bracket. A Tiger loss to New Ulm Saturday pitted the two teams in the loser's bracket.
The Tigers got on the board first. Tanner Picht made it to first on a bunt and Mac Beyer's RBI single brought him home in the top of the first.
Fairmont answered with three in the bottom half.
The Tigers got another run in the second innnig. Picht scored again, this time on Tyler Henrichs' RBI triple.
Again, Fairmont answered with two runs in the bottom half, and added two insurance runs in the fifth.
Sam Mattson pitched a complete game, giving up seven runs, three earned, on six hits and one walk. He struck out three in his final performance for the Tigers.
