Boys Golf: Zosel WCC champ, Peterson all-conference
The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta boys golf team wrapped up the West Central Conference play on Thursday, May 18. Jacob Zosel was able to surpass rival and friend Esten Stensrud of Minnewaska to win the conference championship. Briar Peterson also earned all-conference honors with a seventh place overall finish.
The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tiger golf team took first at the first of two meets on Thursday, May 18, checking off one of Morris/C-A’s goals for the season, said head coach Joey Fragodt.
“Getting first as a team in Benson was definitely a highlight for the guys,” Fragodt said. “Jacob [Zosel] and Briar [Peterson] both shot 37s in Benson, which was a huge help in winning the meet.”
Zosel and Peterson tied with Montevideo’s Seth Olson for medalist honors at the Benson Golf Club.
Zosel was able to add another medalist finish at Montevideo with a score of 35. It was those two low rounds that catapulted him past Minnewaska’s Esten Stensrud to become the West Central Conference champion. Zosel edged the title from Stensrud by one stroke.
Peterson also earned all-conference honors.
“We ended the season strong today. All in all a good day, and a good momentum builder going into sections next Thursday,” Fragodt said.
The Tigers open up Section 3AA play next Thursday, May 25 at Oakdale in Buffalo Lake.
