Two Owl teams took first place at the Ortonville tournament on Saturday, Jan. 14. Hancock’s fifth grade team and fourth grade team both went 3-0 on the day to claim the top spot. The fifth grade Owls defeated Ortonville, Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley, and Canby to claim the top spot. The fourth graders defeated Milbank, Ortonville, and Wheaton/Herman-Norcross for the title.
The Hancock JV has gone 2-2 since Jan. 6. The Owls defeated Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 41-14 on Friday. Jan. 6, then fell to Benson 31-26 on Friday, Jan. 13. The following week, the Hancock JV fell to Wheaton/Herman-Norcross and bounced back against Ashby.
Kassandra Algarate scored 21 points to lead Hancock to a 17-point win over MACCRAY at home Friday, Jan. 20. Hancock held a seven-point lead at the half and outscored MACCRAY by 10 in the second stanza to win 54-37. RELATED: Hancock downs Ashby , prep girls basketball , Hancock athletics
Ortonville outlasted the Owls in a battle of western Minnesota heavyweights on Friday, Jan. 20 in Ortonville. Hancock lost a two-point halftime lead and was outscored 35-28 in the second half to fall 65-60 to the Trojans.

The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tigers took part in the Detroit Lakes triangular on Thursday, Jan. 19 with Thief River Falls. The Tigers finished with 106 points paced by three third place finishes. The relay team of Dalton Dierks, Levin Strand, Andrew Messner, and Ryan Bowman took third in the 200 medley in a time of 2:07.84. Dierks added a third place finish in the 100 backstroke, clocking a 1:17.85 in the event.
The Morris Area / Chokio-Alberta Tiger gymnastics team dropped a close meet to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle / Browerville on Thursday, Jan. 16. The varsity was edged 128.15-125.25. The JV however won 99.25-97.3. RELATED: Tigers second at Moorhead , prep gymnastics , Morris/C-A athletics
