MORRIS, Minn. - The 2016–17 University of Minnesota, Morris Performing Arts Series continues with Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company on Saturday, Feb.25. The ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Center’s Edson Auditorium.
Students for a Democratic Society on the University of Minnesota Morris campus want the campus to be a sanctuary for immigrants. President Donald Trump's immigration policies and proposals, including the travel ban on Muslim immigrants and refugees from seven countries, has a negative impact on UMM, the state of Minnesota and the entire country, Mitch Hancock of the student organization said. "...we need protection for all people at risk," Hancock said.

To the editor, I realize that for you, the reader, Valentine's Day has passed, and I hope it was a good one filled with love and hope. For me, it is Valentine's day today, as I am writing this letter. After a sleepless night with a beautiful toddler, I had a lovely Valentine's morning.
Juan Cid loves soccer. He can quickly recite the names of some top players in Mexico, who are also some of the top players in the world. "I've been playing soccer ever since I can remember," Cid said. "I've played (as an adult) in Willmar for over 10 years. I've been part of a league there for over five years." "For me, Morris has a lot of potential for soccer, especially for kids," Cid said. "I have three kids and I want them to be able to play soccer."

To the editor, Thank you, Rep. Jeff Backer, for your courageous votes in favor of the "buffer bill" in 2015 and 2016, and for your work on the conference committee that worked out the final details of the bill that ultimately became law. While buffer rules have been in place for decades in Minnesota, I'm glad Rep. Backer supported efforts to give these rules some much needed updates and teeth in order to start cleaning up some of the 40 percent of Minnesota waters that are impaired for conventional pollutants.
