As farmers were getting prepared to head to the fields this spring, the FSA office in Alexandria received its newest employee. Anna Anderson has become the newest member of the Farm Loan Program team that services Douglas, Grant, Stevens, Pope, and Traverse County. While new to the office, she is not new to the agency or the area. Prior to relocating to Alexandria, Anna worked and trained to be an FSA Farm Loan Officer in the Stearns County FSA for about 14 months. She also did a summer internship during college at the East Polk County FSA office located in McIntosh, Minn.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has prepared an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) for a swine production facility proposed in southwestern Stevens County. The EAW, which describes potential impacts on land use, water quality and air quality, is open for public review and comment through July 19, 2006. Randy Koehl, managing partner of Moore Lean LLP, plans to build two barns for gestation and farrowing of swine about eight miles south of Chokio near the intersection of County Roads 8 and 15 in Stevens Township.
By Tom Cherveny West Central Tribune BENSON -- If agriculture can provide the solution to America's energy needs by replacing fossil fuels with renewable biomass, Benson will show the way. That's where ground was broken on Friday at the Chippewa Valley Ethanol Company plant to construct one of the state's first biomass gasifiers. It will convert biomass -- anything from wood chips to corn stover -- into a synthetic gas. Cyrus Eilert and Dorraine Beyer visited with their grandchildren Ashley and Tyler Mithun of Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the home of their dad, Carter Mithun, near Starbuck, Tuesday, June 13. Eilert and Dorraine Beyer spent Wednesday evening, June 14 until Friday at the Vernon and Kim Quaal home near Underwood babysitting Morgan, Cole and Shanda. Thursday, June 15, a son was born to Vernon and Kim Quaal at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. They named him Holden David. He weighs 8 lbs. 5 oz.
Funeral services for Stefan Chizek were held Monday, June 19 at St. Leo's Catholic Church. Burial was at St. Leo's Cemetery. Stefan Jack Chizek died June 15, 2006 in his home surrounded by his family and friends. Stefan died just 12 days short of his 16 birthday after an 8 month battle with Leukemia. Stefan was born June 27, 1990 in Fargo, N.D. He was raised in Casselton, N.D. where he went to school at Central Cass. During his school years he enjoyed football, basketball and baseball as well as many other extracurricular activities.
In almost any grocery store, shoppers can find a nice basket of ripe, red strawberries. Drop them in the cart, pay and they're on their way. So what possesses people to spend an hour or so in the dirt, bent over strawberry plants, picking and placing the red morsels in an ice cream pail. Funeral services for Ida E. Marquart of Morris, were held Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fairfield Township. Reverend Robert Jarvis officiated. Burial was at the church cemetery. Ida Ernestine Gades, daughter of Frederich A. and Ernestine Martha (Fels) Gades, was born October 30, 1907 at the family home in Tara Township, Swift County. She grew up in Tara Township, where she worked on the family farm and received her education at a German Parochial School near their home. On March 20, 1921, she was confirmed into the Lutheran Faith in Tara Township.
