Kindra Cannon of Morris was awarded a $1,500 scholarship from the North Dakota State College of Science for the 2015 — 2016 school year. The scholarships recognize and reward students for academic achievement, test scores and participation in extracurricular and other volunteer activities. Cannon was one of 98 incoming freshmen to be awarded a scholarship. Matthew Forcella of Morris has been named to University of St. Thomas 2015 spring semester dean's list. Students must post grade-point averages of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale to be named to the dean's list.
MORRIS — A 37-year-old Morris man has been convicted of two counts of criminal sexual conduct related to an incident in Morris in February when he sexually assaulted a 29-year-old man. Esteban Perez-Juarez was found guilty of second and fourth degree criminal sexual conduct and acquitted of first and third degree criminal sexual conduct on Friday, June 26 after a three-day jury trial in Stevens County District Court. According to Stevens County Attorney Aaron Jordan, Perez-Juarez entered a college party on the west side of Morris in the early morning hours of Saturday, Feb. 21.
The following area students were among the 1,719 students to graduate from North Dakota State University in spring 2015: Joshua Taylor of Morris (BS in public relations and advertising); Katlyn Blackwelder of Chokio (BS in public relations and advertising with honors); and Abigail Ascheman (BS in accounting), Shem Baker (BS in criminal justice) and Mitchell Grunig (Master of Education in counseling) from Hancock. Samuel Matson, son of Paul and Sarah Mattson of Morris, and Marlee Morton, daughter of Douglas and RaNae Morton of Morris, have been named to the Dean's Honor List at Concordia C
The University of Minnesota's West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC) conducts research in the areas of agronomy and soil science, dairy, horticulture, renewable energy and swine. MORRIS — In an evening with 14 competitors, six acts will move on to the finals of the Kiwanis Talent Show during Prairie Pioneer Days. Competition on Thursday, June 25 was open to competitors of all ages. Dancer Maura Lamberty took first place, with a performance she choreographed to "Blow" by Kesha. Violinist Gabriel Dalhoff and singer Haleigh Velde tied for second place. Dalhoff performed two pieces, including "Canon in D" while Velde performed a vocal solo of "The Call." Three performers tied for third place.
MORRIS — A barn in Darnen Township is a total loss after a fire on Saturday night. Just after 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, the Stevens County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call for a structure fire at a barn in Darnen Township. The Morris Fire Department responded to the call and extinguished the fire over a period of more than four hours. The structure, along with personally stored property, was a total loss.

Rachel Moser of Morris was among the 376 students who participated in the Augustana College commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 23. Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., is a selective, residential, comprehensive college of the Lutheran Church. Matthew Munsterman, son of Troy and Lori Munsterman of Morris received the North Dakota State University Freshman Scholarship. The scholarship recognizes high academic achievement.
