Brad Barth named West Central Initiative President/CEO Brad Barth has been named president/CEO of West Central Initiative by the WCI Board of Directors. He will begin his duties with WCI in July. Reporting to the WCI Board, Barth will lead, direct and manage the organization and guide its strategic direction. He will also serve as WCI's chief spokesperson and represent the west central region to the greater state of Minnesota. "Brad is a proven leader who is prepared to continue the excellent work of WCI," said Dean Simpson, chair of the WCI Executive Search Committee.
John Huebner, son of Mark and Mary Huebner, is the recipient of the Presidential Distinction Scholarship and a Music Performance Scholarship from Concordia College of Moorhead.
MORRIS — A monument recognizing residents of Stevens County who were killed in combat will be dedicated as part of this year's Memorial Day remembrances. The annual Memorial Day program will begin at 9 a.m. at the National Guard Armory in Morris on Monday, May 26. Following the program, there will be a march to the Veterans Memorial for a ceremony at approximately 10 a.m.
UMM faculty and staff honored at 2015 Recognition Dinner The University of Minnesota, Morris 2015 Faculty and Staff Recognition Dinner was held on Thursday, April 30. Hosted by Chancellor Jacqueline R. Johnson, the event provided the campus community an opportunity to congratulate faculty and staff award recipients and to thank retirees for their service to the Morris campus.
Minnesota State University Moorhead will award degrees to more than 940 students during its spring commencement program Friday, May 15 in the university's Nemzek Fieldhouse. Area students participating in commencement include Sydney Beyer (Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in business administration and a certificate in business analytics), Mitchell Carbert (B.S. in business administration), and Eric Kolden (B.S. in accounting) of Morris; Chelsea Engebretson (bachelor of nursing) of Starbuck; and Roseanne Wilts (B.S.
Nathan Gibson of Morris and Andrew Erickson of Chokio are among the 2,371 students who earned degrees from Minnesota State University, Mankato this year. Both Gibson and Erickson earned a BS degree in management. Commencement exercises were planned for Saturday, May 9 in the Taylor Center on the Minnesota State Mankato campus. Derek Richter and Ashley Boettcher of Morris are candidates for graduation from Minnesota West Community and Technical College.
Local Dale Carnegie graduates recognized Dale Carnegie Training would like to recognize the 2015 Morris Dale Carnegie Course graduates. A special acknowledgement goes to Travis Meyer as he has won the Highest Award for Achievement for his participation in the Dale Carnegie Course recently completed in Morris, Minn. The recipient for the award is voted on by class members upon completion of the course series.

UMM among Green Ribbon Schools Sustainability Awardees The University of Minnesota, Morris is among the the 2015 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools (ED-GRS) Postsecondary Sustainability Awardees. Nine colleges and universities were honored for the first-ever Postsecondary Sustainability Award. Morris was nominated for the ED-GRS award by the Minnesota Department of Education.
Michael Anderson of Morris was awarded the Janet Joos Mathematics Award at the University of Jamestown Honors Convocation on Thursday, April 16. The award is given each year to the sophomore student showing the greatest promise in mathematics. The award was established by Russell D. and Janet M. Joos. Anderson was also recognized as an inductee of Beta Beta Beta, a National Biological Honor Society.
