Warren Dahl was born Jan. 16, 1921, the third of seven children to Edward and Bertha (Highum) Dahl, in Glenwood. After graduating from Glenwood High School he went to Fort Snelling to enlist in the Air Corps. He married June B. Zahl Jan. 16, 1943 in Bradenton, Fla. He and June then spent the next 28 years traveling the world, three kids in tow, courtesy of the U.S. Air Force. They retired to Minnesota and settled into an idyllic home on East Lake Carlos in 1977 where they spent many years gardening, fishing and playing with grandchildren.
Edith Rosalie Bristor Eccleston was born April 22, 1918 in Swan Lake Township, and passed away on June 25, 2011 in Bloomington. Edith was the daughter of Frank and Rosa Podratz. Edith lived on a farm until the 1950s. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, O'Dell Bristor and Joseph Eccleston. She is survived by her children, Wanda Woodwick, Anita (Jerry) Williams, Dennis (Carlye) Bristor and Marlin (Sue) Bristor; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ardyce Erickson, 80, of rural Barrett, died Friday, June 24, 2011, at the Douglas County Hospital, Alexandria. She was born on Sept. 22, 1930, in Alexandria to Olander and Evelyn (Stevenson) Olson, was baptized and confirmed, and attended Wennersborg Lutheran Church, rural Kensington. The family later joined the Bethel Lutheran Church in Hoffman. Following graduation from Hoffman High School in 1948, she attended Beauty College in Minneapolis. On March 10, 1951, Ardyce was united in marriage to Russell Harold Erickson.
Funeral services for Cornelia Joos of Morris, formerly of Hancock, were held Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church near Morris. The Apostolic Christian Church Ministers offiated. Burial was at the church cemetery. Cornelia Marie Joos, better known as "Neil," daughter of Jacob and Anna Nohl, was born on Jan. 10, 1915, on the family farm near Hancock. Neil graduated 8th grade and helped at the household of her sister, Viola, who died from a brain tumor at an early age.
Memorial services for Irene Riedner of Alberta, were held Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Father Tim Baltes officiated. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Morris. Irene Marie Grotjohn, daughter of Albert and Edith (Fangmeier) Grotjohn, was born Nov. 27, 1927 in Morris, where she grew up and was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church. In the 1970s Irene was confirmed into the Catholic Faith along with her son Dave. Irene attended and graduated from Morris High School in 1945.
Funeral services for Elvira Ida Pieske of Cyrus were held Monday, June 20, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus. Reverend John R. Smith officiated. Burial was at Cyrus South Cemetery, rural Cyrus. Elvira Ida Pieske, daughter of Gotlib and Emma (Hoppe) Mude, was born Oct. 18, 1917 in Brown County, Minnesota where she grew up and received her schooling. She was also baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith while living in Brown County. On Oct. 17, 1940, she was united in marriage to Merritt Earl Pieske.
Verne L. Chandler (Chan) 92, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at Banner Baywood Hospital, Mesa Arizona. He was born March 26, 1918, in Grand Forks, N.D., to Charles and Mattie Chandler. He serves in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Marjorie Hartgrave in 1943. After the war they lived in East Grand Forks, Minn., where Verne was a herdsman for Schroeder Farms. In 1954, they moved to Tintah, Minn., where Verne worked for Putnam Farms, the Public Schools System and lastly the University of Minnesota, Morris.
Funeral services for Harriet Rice of Morris are Thursday, June 16, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris, with Rev. Dell Sanderson officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris. Harriet Alice Nelson, daughter of Linus and Anna (Olson) Nelson was born April 13, 1919 at Powers Hospital in Barrett, Minnesota.
Collene Kloos, 81, Hoffman, died Thursday, June 9, at the Good Samaritan Society-Hoffman. She was born May 24, 1930, in Osakis, Minnesota, to Everett M. and Cora (Johnson) Reddick. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith at the Osakis Lutheran Church, Osakis, confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church at Oak Hill, attended rural school at District 129 and graduated from the Osakis High School in 1948. Collene and Lawrence Charles Kloos were united in marriage by the Rev. Thronson at the Osakis Lutheran Church on July 10, 1954.
The world is less a warrior today and it's a sad day for me. Douglas Parisian passed on to the Spirit World on June, 9, in Alpharetta, Ga. Doug had been a resident of the Dogwood Forest assisted-living complex there since February 1, 2011. Douglas Eugene Parisian was born in Waubun, Minn., on December 27, 1922. Mr. Parisian was an enrolled member of the Mississippi Band of Minnesota Chippewa Indians, White Earth Reservation. He was a 1940 graduate of Waubun High School. He joined the Army Air Force in 1944 and advanced to the rank of Flight Officer.
