Funeral services for Elvira Ida Pieske of Cyrus were held Monday, June 20, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus. Reverend John R. Smith officiated. Burial was at Cyrus South Cemetery, rural Cyrus. Elvira Ida Pieske, daughter of Gotlib and Emma (Hoppe) Mude, was born Oct. 18, 1917 in Brown County, Minnesota where she grew up and received her schooling. She was also baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith while living in Brown County. On Oct. 17, 1940, she was united in marriage to Merritt Earl Pieske.
Verne L. Chandler (Chan) 92, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at Banner Baywood Hospital, Mesa Arizona. He was born March 26, 1918, in Grand Forks, N.D., to Charles and Mattie Chandler. He serves in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Marjorie Hartgrave in 1943. After the war they lived in East Grand Forks, Minn., where Verne was a herdsman for Schroeder Farms. In 1954, they moved to Tintah, Minn., where Verne worked for Putnam Farms, the Public Schools System and lastly the University of Minnesota, Morris.
Funeral services for Harriet Rice of Morris are Thursday, June 16, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris, with Rev. Dell Sanderson officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris. Harriet Alice Nelson, daughter of Linus and Anna (Olson) Nelson was born April 13, 1919 at Powers Hospital in Barrett, Minnesota.
Collene Kloos, 81, Hoffman, died Thursday, June 9, at the Good Samaritan Society-Hoffman. She was born May 24, 1930, in Osakis, Minnesota, to Everett M. and Cora (Johnson) Reddick. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith at the Osakis Lutheran Church, Osakis, confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church at Oak Hill, attended rural school at District 129 and graduated from the Osakis High School in 1948. Collene and Lawrence Charles Kloos were united in marriage by the Rev. Thronson at the Osakis Lutheran Church on July 10, 1954.
The world is less a warrior today and it's a sad day for me. Douglas Parisian passed on to the Spirit World on June, 9, in Alpharetta, Ga. Doug had been a resident of the Dogwood Forest assisted-living complex there since February 1, 2011. Douglas Eugene Parisian was born in Waubun, Minn., on December 27, 1922. Mr. Parisian was an enrolled member of the Mississippi Band of Minnesota Chippewa Indians, White Earth Reservation. He was a 1940 graduate of Waubun High School. He joined the Army Air Force in 1944 and advanced to the rank of Flight Officer.
Funeral services for Albert "Bud" Stahman, of Morris, are Thursday, June 9, at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. Rev. Dell Sanderson will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Thursday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris. Albert Henry Stahman, son of Peter and Anna (Wagner) Stahman, was born May 20, 1915 on the family farm in Synnes Township in Stevens County, Minnesota. Bud grew up on the family farm and received his education at a rural school in Synnes Township.
Jennings Kooda, 66, passed away June 4. Kooda was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. J.C. Kooda, of Morris, and he was a 1963 graduate of Morris High Schoo. Kooda lived in Richardson, Texas.
he memorial gathering for Neil Joseph Sprouls of Kensington, Minnesota will be held on Monday, June 6, 2011 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kensington Community Center in Kensington. Burial will be held at a later date at the Our Lady of Runestone Catholic Cemetery near Kensington. Neil Joseph Sprouls, son of Duane and Rose (Kopel) Sprouls was born on December 25, 1958 at Morris, Minnesota. He grew up and attended school in Kensington, graduating from Kensington High School in 1977.
Dorothy L. Dotty Hilla, age 80, of Burnsville died on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Summit Oaks Lodge, in Burnsville. Dotty is survived by children, Sandy (Steve) Swenson, Terry (Wendy) Hilla, Joe Hilla, Scott (Nancy) Hilla, Paul (Su) Hilla, Patti Hilla, and Mary Hilla; grandchildren, Laura (Derrick), Steve (Mandi), Suzie (Donny), Tom, Shawn (Tegan), Rachel, Nick, Jamie, Aleah, Kelly (Tracy) and Jake; five great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Loher; sisters, Sr. Audrey Loher, OSF, Virginia Jablonski.
Duane Carbert passed away in his home of natural causes on May 25, 2011. Born to Ralph Carbert and Linda (Toop) Stark on August 20, 1947, Duane grew up in Morris, and graduated from Morris High School in 1965. He went on to technical school to become a draftsman, and became acknowledged through the years as a self-taught engineer working for many companies who developed technology for the defense industry. He was a successful carpenter and enjoyed working with his hands.
