Alvin W. Rathke, 89, of Hoffman, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Center in Hoffman. Funeral services for Alvin Rathke will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, Nov.r 12, 2011, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hoffman. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Aeneas Cemetery, Stevens County. Alvin was born on Sept. 17, 1922, in Grant County to Walter Rathke Sr and Rosa Abel. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith on Oct. 8, 1922 and confirmed on June 27, 1937 at Zion Church in Hoffman.
Cameron O. Johnson, age 39 of Minneapolis, passed away after a valiant two month battle with lymphoma. Cameron was a capable freelance network engineer. He was preceded by aunt Karen Feuchtmann and is survived by parents, Dr. Rodney and Jean Johnson, brother Preston R. Johnson and wife Sarah of San Diego, Calif. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, Lakewood Cemetery Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Avenue S. Minneapolis, Minn. Visitation 1/2 hour prior. Memorials preferred. www.albinchapel.com
A memorial gathering honoring the life of Tamara Mason, will be held Monday, Nov. 14, 2011 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, with a time of sharing and a candle-light service to begin at 7 p.m. that evening. Rev. Jim Albert will be officiating. Tamara Lee Cobb-Mason was born Aug. 31, 1961 in Adams County, Ohio to parents, Jimmy and Carrol (Frances) Cobb. Tamara spent her early childhood in Ohio, later living in Mason County, Ky. She also spent several years in New Orleans, La. before moving to Morris in 2005.
Ruth Evelyn (Dokken) Ellingson, was born on Nov. 19, 1918, in Langhei Township, Pope County, the daughter of Bennie and Marie (Lien) Dokken. She was baptized on Dec. 15, 1918, by Rev. Christ Pederson at East Zion Lutheran Church and confirmed by Rev. K.R. Palmer in 1933 at East Zion Lutheran Church. She attended school at District #83 and graduated from Benson High School. In 1943 she was united in marriage to Milo A. Ellingson of Swift Falls, by the Rev. K.R. Pederson and the East Zion Parsonage. To this union three children were born, Jerome, Marilyn, and James.
Lillian K. Pariseau, age 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011 at Oakwood Villa Nursing Home in Altoona, Wis. Lillian was born Oct. 6, 1918 in Donnelly to Loddie and Helena (Smith) Matejka. She married Coval M. Pariseau on Oct. 10, 1958 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Coval preceded Lillian in death in 1978. Over the years, Lillian worked as a telephone operator for Central Livestock, and also did some in-home care for some friends. She was an active member at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Altoona, Wis. for 33 years.
Vernon Eystad, 79, former Kensington resident, died Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at First Lutheran Church, Kensington, with the Rev. Kathryn Rothman officiating. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Kensington. Visitation will be held from 3-6 on Sunday, Oct. 23, at the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Hoffman and resume at the church one hour before the service on Monday. Vernon Walter Eystad was born May 15, 1932, in Morris, to Joseph and Bertha (Buntje) Eystad.
Lyndon D. Wilberg, age 50, of Alexandria, and formerly of Kensington, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, in rural Kensington as a result of injuries received in a tractor rollover accident. Funeral services for Lyndon were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct 17, at Nora Lutheran Church, rural Kensington, with Pastor John Martinson officiating. Interment was in Nora Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements were with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood. Lyndon Dale Wilberg, son of Oran and Ella (Amerson) Wilberg, was born in Alexandria, on April 8, 1961.
Harriet Schwartz, 88, died at Bethany Community in Alexandria, on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011. Harriet Maxine Heuer was born Oct. 3, 1923 at home near Donnelly, to Roy and Verna (Sutton) Heuer. She married Ralph Fynboh in January 1941. They farmed and raised three sons in Stevens County until Ralph's death in 1958. In 1965 she married Frank Schwartz of Canby, where they farmed and raised his twin daughters. Frank died in March 2002 and Harriet moved to Brandon, in 2004. Harriet's greatest loves were her God and her family.
Richard Alan Grant, professor emeritus of English at the University of Minnesota, Morris, died Aug. 8. 2011, eight days after his 84th birthday. He was born in Springfield, Mass., the son of Clifford and Beatrice Rollins Grant. He spent his summers as a youth at Ocean Park, Maine, where his great-great-great-grandfather built the first cottage. He joined the Navy at age 17, serving on a minesweeper in Tokyo Harbor. He graduated from Colby College in Maine and received his master's at Cornell University.
Funeral services for Beverly Hoffman were held on Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton with Pastor Michelle Rowell officiating. Pati Arnold was the organist and accompanied the congregation in the singing of the hymns. Honorary Bearers were all of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Casketbearers were Cory Hoffman, Matthew Karty, Scott Miller, Benedict Burns, B J Opoien, and Brian Bennett.
