We created our oil mess Professor Michael Greenberger is a former board member of the Commodities Futures Trading Commission. Until President Bush was sworn into office, the CFTC acted as the cop on the street, making sure that buyers in the market were not manipulating prices past what supply and demand does in a normal marketplace. Parents' hard work has value Many of us look back on our childhood as a time we didn't have a worry in the world. Unfortunately, a large number of Minnesota's children don't have it so easy. These children are victims of maltreatment and neglect. The Minnesota Department of Human Services reports that "the effects of child abuse and neglect are far reaching. Research has shown that children who have been abused and neglected are more likely to perform poorly in school, get involved in criminal activities and abuse or neglect their own children.
Why the high assessments? Will the folks in Stevens County and Morris please tell the rest of the country how it managed to keep houses and property values going up,while in the rest of the country, the values have gone down? I have talked to friends across the country, in large, small and in-between-sized cities, and they all say the value of their property has been assessed lower. But, not in Stevens County, where my land in Swan Lake Township, my vacant lot in Morris, and my house in Morris were assessed higher than the year before. What is Stevens county doing right?
