Funeral services for Kayden Hansen, infant son of Bethany Hansen, were held Monday, Dec. 21, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church in Morris. Reverend Rob Jarvis officiated. Burial was at Summit Cemetery in Morris. Kayden Andrew Hansen was born on April 23, 2009 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria. He and his loving mother, Bethany Hansen, made their home in Alberta. Kayden was also lucky enough to live with his grandparents, Ardyn and Lorie Hansen, who cherished the opportunity to share in the daily joys of having Kayden and Bethany in their home.
Donavan Tolifson, age 84 of Phoenix, Ariz., passed away on Sept. 28, 2009. Don was born on Dec. 8, 1924 in Windom, Minn. where he worked as a farmer before relocating to Arizona with hes family. He retired from the city of Phoenix where he worked in the water department as a water meter reader. Don is survived by his wife, Arlene; sons, Gayle (Christina), Lyle (Laura); daughter, Patricia; seven grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Friday, October 2 at Green Acres Glendale Mortuary. Interment was at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale, Ariz.
Memorial services for Dorothy Christians of Herman will be held Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Herman. Reverend Mickey Olson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Dorothy Mae Christians was born to Herman and Bertha (Quam) VanZomeren on their family farm, October 6, 1947, in rural Herman. Growing up she truly enjoyed all aspects of the farm life, never shying away from a hard days work.
Funeral services for Loretta Kampmeier of Chokio will be held Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chokio. Father Peter VanderWeyst will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Chokio. Loretta Helen Fritsch, daughter of Andrew and Margaret (Ryan) Fritsch, was born January 17, 1915 in Chokio, Minnesota, where she grew up and was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Loretta attended and graduated from Chokio High School.
Funeral services for Lester "Buster" Willert were held Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria. He was laid to rest at the St. Mary's Cemetery in Chokio on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009. Buster was born July 4, 1924 in Boyden, Iowa to August and Louise Willert. His family moved to Chokio in 1933 where they farmed. On Sept. 10,1942, he was united in marriage to Lenore Grossman at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chokio by Father Hennenkamp. Following the wedding they made their home in Chokio. He worked for Olson's Implement in Chokio for many years.
Funeral services for Kathryn "Katie" Anderson will be held Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris, MN. Reverend Dell Sanderson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7:30 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Kathryn Rose Anderson was born August 27, 1990 in Two Harbors, Minnesota and was adopted by Gary and Rose Anderson. Katie was baptized on December 23, 1990 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus, MN by Reverend John R.
Leann Marie Dick, age 24, of Onigum passed away at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009. She was born on June 3, 1985 in Bemidji to Lester "Wheels" Dick and Carol White. She graduated from Walker Hackensack Akeley High School in 2003. She attended Leech Lake Tribal College graduating valedictorian of Liberal Arts in 2009. Leann continued her Environmental Science Biology degree at the University of Minnesota, Morris.
Florence Einora Malland, daughter of Roy and Bessie Thomas, was born in Emmetsburg, Iowa on September 29, 1917. In March 1929, at age 11 she moved with her family to Framnas Township in Stevens County. She attended school in Cyrus. She married Athel Malland on April 15, 1939 in Milbank, S.D. To this union were born three children: Gary, Linelle, and Darrell. She lived in Hancock for 17 years until recently moving to the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck.
Lester (Bus) Willert, age 85, of Alexandria and formerly of Chokio, died on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at his home. A memorial Mass is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at noon at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Lester is survived by his wife, Lenore, and nine children. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
Russell A. Magnuson, age 61 of Indianapolis, formally of Morris, passed away on Oct. 1, 2009. Russell served honorably in the US Marine Corps; including two tours in Vietnam and retired from the US Army. He was preceded in death by wife, Patricia; parents, Mons and Ora Magnuson; sisters, Jenny Viland, Ruthann Mohrman and infant sister Vivian; infant brother Carl.
