Florence Elnora Malland, daughter of Roy and Bessie Thomas, was born in Emmetsburg, Iowa on September 29, 1917. In March 1929, at age 11 she moved with her family to Framnas Township in Stevens County. She attended school in Cyrus. She married Athel Malland on April 15, 1939 in Milbank, S.D. To this union were born three children: Gary, Linelle, and Darrell. She lived in Hancock for 17 years until recently moving to the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck.
Funeral services for Cecelia Dickson of Morris will be held Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Father Tim Baltes will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Morris. Cecelia Anna Amberg, daughter of Ernest and Magdeliena (Leuthard) Amberg, was born on Jan. 19, 1910 in Chokio, where she grew up and graduated from Chokio High School in 1927. In 1930 she was united in marriage to John Dickson. To this union one daughter was born.
Robert Merle Speer, son of Joseph and Alta (Myers) Speer, was born Feb.27, 1920 in Hancock. Bob grew up in Stevens County and graduated from Cyrus High School in 1938. On Nov. 4, 1942, he was united in marriage to Gladys Rabel. To this union two sons were born, Brian and David. In 1942, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as a Sergeant in WWII. He received an honorable discharge in 1946. Following his discharge, Bob and Gladys lived in Rendsville Township, where they farmed and raised Pure Breed Registered Angus Cattle.
Funeral services for Kris Christensen of Morris will be held Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Father Tim Baltes will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM with a prayer service at 5:00 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Morris. Kris Eric Christensen, son of Knute and Rosalie (Stein) Christensen, was born July 29, 1973 in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Vincent P. Lonneman, age 85, of Benson, died Tuesday, Nov. 17 at Meadow Lane Golden Living Center in Benson. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 21, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson, with Fr. Bill Sprigler officiating. Burial was in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. Vincent Peter Lonneman was born July 19, 1924, in Adrian, the son of Antone and Elizabeth (Wiedert) Lonneman. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Adrians Catholic Church. Vincent grew up on the family farm near Adrian and attended school at St. Adrian Catholic School.
Funeral services for Donald Vogel of Morris will be held Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Federated Church in Morris. Reverend Hilda Parks will be officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be held at Summit Cemetery in Morris, with Military Rites provided by the Morris American Legion, VFW and AmVets. Donald Elliott Vogel was born October 16, 1925, in Fergus Falls, Minn., the son of Frederick & Frances (Foss) Vogel.
David James Heinrich was born on Dec. 4, 1949 in Morris to Julius McDonald and Lillian Bernice (Waller) Heinrich. He was baptized and confirmed at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church in rural Donnelly. Dave graduated from Morris High School in 1967. On Nov. 29, 1968 Dave enlisted in the Army National Guard where he served for six years. After he finished his basic training for the guards, Dave was united in marriage to Sharon Larson on Aug. 23, 1969 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wendell. The couple moved to Minneapolis where Dave worked at Sears Roebuck and Company for 12 years.
Violet Meyer, age 85, of Hoffman, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2009, at the St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral services for Violet Meyer will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, November 12, 2009, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hoffman with the Rev. Donald Wagner officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery, Hoffman. Friends may call at the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Hoffman on Wednesday from 4-8 pm; visitation will resume at the church one hour prior to the service Thursday morning. Millicent Edith Schmidgall, age 89, formerly of Burnsville, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother died peacefully Nov. 9, 2009. She was preceded in death by husband Ray Schmidgall, father and mother, James and Mary McDonnell; sisters Anne Andersen and Jean Nelson; daughters Karen, Joyce and Beverly. She is survived by children, Ruth Kearney, Robert, Janice (Sam) Boe, Patricia (Steven) Monson, Joanne Hafdahl, Dwayne (Terri), Debra (Gary) Wray, Larry (Marcy), Charlie (Cathy), Christine (Kent) Leman; 29 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
