Memorial services for Darlene Gunderson of Morris were held Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 at First Lutheran Church in Morris. Reverend Todd Mattson officiated. Burial was in Summit Cemetery in Morris. Darlene Joanne Sjolsvold, daughter of Albert and Verna (Seaverson) Sjolsvold, was born Oct. 31, 1936 in Thief River Falls. Darlene's family lived on a farm in rural Thief River Falls, until they moved into Thief River Falls. Darlene met David Gunderson while they both were working at the S&L Store in Thief River Falls.
Suzanne Kleone Sarlette, age 59, of Muscatine, Iowa, passed away on Oct. 12, 2009 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City as the result of a cerebral hemorrhage caused by a cancerous brain tumor. Suzanne was born in Morris on Aug. 9, 1950, the daughter of Walter and Florence (Frayseth) Sarlette. Sue was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Morris. She graduated from Morris High School as valedictorian of the class of 1968. As a senior at Morris High School, Sue earned both the Math Award and the Bausch and Lomb Science Award.
Lucille Elizabeth Olson, age 88, sister of Sam Logan of Chokio and formerly of Donnelly, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009 at her home in Yuma, Ariz.
Howard Clinton Walker, age 91 of Baldwin, Wis., passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009. He was born the son of Robert Loa and Elma Jane (Clark) Walker on June 30, 1918 in Morris. He attended District 70 School in Morris Township and then Morris High School. In 1941, he was inducted into the National Guard, and then into the US Army, proudly serving in WWII. Howard became a weapons instructor at Ft. Benning, Ga., and he was honorably discharged in 1945. Howard and Edna Gillespie were united in marriage on Sept. 4, 1942. They were blessed with seven children.
Burton Johnson, age 92, of Starbuck died Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 27 at Indherred Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26 at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Funeral services for infant, Kadon Lee Wynne of Morris will be held Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 at 3 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. Reverend Tom Fangmeier will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Saturday. The exciting moments of pregnancy and new birth have suddenly turned to sorrow and heartfelt sadness with the death of our son, Kadon Lee Wynne. Kadon entered the world on Monday, Oct. 19, 2009 at 1:38 a.m. at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris.
Emily A. Leo Grammentz, age 94, of Glenwood, and formerly of Herman, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at Glenwood Village Care Center in Glenwood. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home in Glenwood and resume on Friday at the church in Herman, one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Herman. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.
Funeral services for Betty Hurlbut of Herman will be held Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Herman. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 at the United Methodist Church in Herman and for one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Herman. Betty died on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris,, having lived to reach the age of 83 years. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus. Mae Ethel Olson was born May 28, 1920 in rural Kensington to Olga Henrietta (Torgerson) Forsberg and Edwin Oscar Forsberg. Mae was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Kensington. She attended elementary school and graduated from Kensington High School. On Nov.
Funeral services for Edna Smedstad of Morris will be held Friday, October 16, 2009 at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church in Morris. Reverend Ali Boomershine will be officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Holmes City, Minnesota. Edna Olivia Nelson, daughter of Nels and Berthea (Unumb) Nelson, was born March 10, 1910 in Holmes City, Minnesota, where she grew up and attended country school. Following her schooling, she worked at the telephone office in Holmes City.
