MORRIS — Residents will notice more work in downtown Morris this week as crews begin work to replace curbs and sidewalks. Crews will work one or two blocks at a time this week, beginning between Fifth Street and Seventh Street. Work will be concentrated between corners, along the length of a block but excluding the corners. Curb, gutter and sidewalk will be removed, then new curbing will be installed, followed by new sidewalks.
MORRIS — Two Stevens County residents are facing charges after allegedly using another person's debit/credit card to make unauthorized purchases in Morris and Alexandria. John Edward Higgins, 28 of Morris, and Christeena Marie Jensen, 24 of Herman, have been both been charged with financial transaction card fraud.
MORRIS — Sixty Morris Area High School students walked across the stage to receive their diplomas during commencement ceremonies on Friday night. The presentation of diplomas was made by Dick Metzger, chair of the Morris Area School Board, and Diane Moeller, superintendent. Tassel turners, selected by the senior students, were teachers Seth Kelly and Dylan Viss. Valedictorian Trent Wulf and Salutatorian Peter Schneider delivered graduation addresses during the ceremony.

MORRIS — A monument recognizing residents of Stevens County who were killed in combat will be dedicated as part of this year's Memorial Day remembrances. The annual Memorial Day program will begin at 9 a.m. at the National Guard Armory in Morris on Monday, May 26. Following the program, there will be a march to the Veterans Memorial for a ceremony at approximately 10 a.m.

MORRIS — On Monday, Heartland Motor Company broke ground for a new Chevrolet Dealership at the intersection of Highway 9 and Highway 28 in Morris. They plan to be operating out of the new facility before the end of the year. The Dripps family has owned an automobile business in Morris since 1941 when George Dripps was awarded Oldsmobile and GMC Truck franchises and started selling vehicles out of his home on West Eighth Street in Morris. In 1948, George and his son Bill built a new dealership on the corner of Fifth Street and Oregon Avenue.
