MORRIS, Minn. - An early morning fire has damaged the Bello Cucina restaurant in Morris. Morris Fire Chief Dave Dybdal reports that firefighters were called to a fire in the kitchen area of the main street building around 3 a.m. today. Dybdal says firefighters were able to knock the blaze down quickly. However, he reports extensive fire damage to the back of the building. Dybdal plans to meet with the state fire marshal later today to investigate the cause of the fire.
The 2016 Donnelly Threshing Bee Royalty were crowned Saturday night on the Threshing Bee grounds. Logan Mau was named Threshing Bee Queen with Ryanne Bisgard named Threshing Bee Princess. Little Miss Donnelly is Cassie Fults with Addison Cihak names LIttle Miss Princess.
Ten candidates filed to run for five open seats on the Morris Area School Board. There are seven incumbent members of the Morris Area School Board with terms expiring at the end of the year: Brent Fuhrman, Lisa Kurtz, Dick Metzger, Norm Nissen, Jamie Solvie, Robyn VanEps, and Stan Wulf. Due to the consolidation agreement with the Cyrus School District, voters will only be filling five seats — one 2-year term and four 4-year terms.
Three candidates have filed for two seats on the Morris City Council. Incumbent Kevin Wohlers will be joined on the ballot by Kim Gullickson and Sheila Hemming. The other incumbent whose term is expiring, Bill Storck, did not file for re-election. The two candidates who receive the most votes in the Nov. 8 general election will be elected to four-year terms on the Morris City Council.
Tony Schultz of Morris had the winning button for the trip giveaway, held during the Stevens County Fair appreciation supper, held Tuesday, Aug. 9 at the Lee Community Center in Morris. Schultz won a trip for two to San Diego, California. MORRIS — The Morris Kiwanis have announced an abbreviated round of preliminary competitions, leading up to their Talent Show Finals in July at Prairie Pioneer Days. The Kiwanis will hold preliminary competitions on Thursday, June 23 and Thursday, June 30 at East Side Park in Morris. The top five acts from each evening will be eligible to perform during the Talent Show Finals, held as the kick-off to Prairie Pioneer Days on Friday, July 8.
