Ten candidates filed to run for five open seats on the Morris Area School Board. There are seven incumbent members of the Morris Area School Board with terms expiring at the end of the year: Brent Fuhrman, Lisa Kurtz, Dick Metzger, Norm Nissen, Jamie Solvie, Robyn VanEps, and Stan Wulf. Due to the consolidation agreement with the Cyrus School District, voters will only be filling five seats — one 2-year term and four 4-year terms.
Three candidates have filed for two seats on the Morris City Council. Incumbent Kevin Wohlers will be joined on the ballot by Kim Gullickson and Sheila Hemming. The other incumbent whose term is expiring, Bill Storck, did not file for re-election. The two candidates who receive the most votes in the Nov. 8 general election will be elected to four-year terms on the Morris City Council.

The last few weeks have been wildly busy in Morris and it is the stuff that makes small town living worthwhile. Helping Eul's Hardware Hank celebrate 85 years in business with a picnic lunch and cake is just about the best way to spend part of a Saturday afternoon that I know of. A big city friend of mine cannot understand how this works. "Wait," she said, "you mean to tell me that the reward for being in business that long is that you get to give out free food? Shouldn't it be that people show up and buy more from you to help you stay here for another year?" Sure, maybe in the city.
